The 12 weeks pregnancy scan for me is the moment it all becomes really real. For Donetta it’s already very real, the illness, sickness and changes to her body make sure she knows this is definitely happening.
From my point of view as a man though, it’s almost like that scan picture of a tiny little human done at an actual hospital is proper evidence. I mean obviously I can see it’s happening, we’ve pissed on a stick and Donetta makes it extremely clear things are happening, but that first scan somehow makes it sink in properly.
I think another reason the 12 weeks pregnancy scan is greatly significant, is that for most people it’s a milestone that once reached means you can tell the world that you’re expecting! Almost everyone I know waits for the 12 week scan to then shout from the rooftops, until this point it’s been a secret mission to avoid people.
As you’ll know by the time this post is published, we felt we had to tell a select few family members that we were pregnant which is a bit rubbish. I remember making the calls when we’d had Corben’s first scan and we had kept it a secret from EVERYONE which made those calls so special. It’s still going to be great sharing with them the picture and updating them.
Another really exciting thing will be telling you lot! When Corben was born we didn’t know what a blog or vlog was, this time we absolutely know! We can’t wait to break the news to our online friends and finally be able to publish the shit load of content I’m sat creating but can’t post anywhere!
We’ve already started thinking about a pregnancy reveal video and have decided on our first announcement post already…
As you may have seen already by now, we plan on Christmas Eve after the scan, to post only the ‘pregnant woman’ emoji on our social media. Then do NOTHING!
We will spend Christmas Day as we generally do, playing with the kids and hosting family, leaving everyone to wonder if our emoji post is real, does it mean what it looks like etc. It’ll either be really funny as intended, or no-one will care. I’d like to think it will spark conversation, questions and in general people will see the funny side. The funny side being that many people who do YouTube etc, will put together a huge announcement video and we will literally post a single emoji.
We will do a video afterwards of course, it’ll be great to film, edit and watch back in years to come and we do plan to document as much of our pregnancy journey as possible via our YouTube channel.
So that’s the live update for today, Wednesday 14th December. We received a letter yesterday, only a week after our first midwife appointment with the scan date, Monday 24th December, Christmas Eve. We won’t forget that will we.
I’m excited and impatient right now and want this part to come quickly because it’s such a memorable moment and so that we can finally press on with everything we have planned, telling the world, this content and filming loads of videos.
It’s going to be amazing, excitement is definitely building.
