I was sat watching YouTube one night and an idea sprung to mind, should everyone be vlogging?
Welcome back to the David and Donetta blog, long time no see! So today I (David) want to tell you about a little idea I had that got so far out of hand I now have a new business venture!
So as I’ve said, I was watching YouTube and specifically thinking about YouTube videos for business. Not those salesy type shite video’s that we’ve all programmed our brains to switch off from, but vlog style videos showing us behind the scenes and the grind behind building a business.
I watch quite a few business-type YouTubers I guess we can call them. They document their business, behind the scenes, the graft they put in and sometimes film videos that show us from the point of their idea to the present day where they’re smashing it!
I find it so intriguing and the numbers back it up too. Many of the ‘How To Start A’ type videos on YouTube have really good numbers and many of the blog posts I see building huge traction on Pinterest etc are always ‘How To’ type posts. People are so intrigued and many want to learn the exact process behind how someone built their business, whether that be a blog business, retail business, or a restaurant.
My idea is to create content around the ‘WHY’ and ‘HOW’ to start a vlog for your business. I believe that Vlog Style Video has a place for any business and especially smaller businesses that are starting up or looking to build their brand.
What Is Vlog Style Video?
A vlog is a ‘Video Log’ and for me Vlog Style Video means any video that intends to document a journey without the need for huge production and/or editing. Vlog Style Videos can be as polished or unpolished as you like, it’s the journey, authenticity, realism and the message in the video that’s important.
So given this, I think there are huge benefits to be had by businesses and I want to help them achieve these benefits.
My initial idea was to put myself out for hire to every single business in Doncaster and beyond, I mean that is still my idea but something else has taken centre stage during these early developments.
Having already created some vlog style videos for several Doncaster businesses I thought I’d reach out to my friend that made those connections and see if there was someone I could speak to, to develop the concept I had. Within an hour we were discussing the possibility of me creating and delivering an entire workshop to a room full of local Doncaster businesses.
Another couple of days later and it has been confirmed that in early April I will be delivering an entire workshop on Vlog Style Video for business!
I’m massively grateful for the huge punt that’s being taken on me to deliver, but I’m pretty confident that the things I have to say and the advice I have to offer will be hugely beneficial for all of the attendees that choose to embrace Vlog Style Video.
It’s early stages but things have kicked off with a bang and I’m planning to document the journey and obviously let everyone know that I’m here to help and even hire. I’ll be creating plenty of content around this subject too so keep an eye out for that.
There you have it! I had an idea late one evening and now it’s resulted in a workshop proposal and a little public speaking gig! I’ve never done anything like this before, but as ever I’m going in head first and we’ll see what happens aye!
