In 2018 people are making a career out of being themselves and simply living their lives. When you think about it, it’s a pretty audacious career choice.

Over the last two years we’ve been trying to do the same and for the most part we’ve struggled to nail down our exact intentions. Mixing our many interests between what’s popular and what we actually care about has become a huge task in itself. You factor in our interests versus our skills and try to create something that we enjoy doing, and something that fits into our already busy lives.

I think you’re left with a very audacious career choice of creating content around our actual lives and hoping we as people and our life is entertaining, educational and interesting enough for people to follow.

We’re just your average couple, with what we see as an average lifestyle. However, the world is really waking up to the fact that most of the world is fake. There’s so much bullshit out there that actually being average and most importantly real, gives you the edge. I know my feelings towards this social media driven world is that I want to see people like me and if I’m feeling like that I know others will be too. I want relatability and to feel engaged with others online.

We started the David and Donetta blog to showcase our videos on the YouTube channel and to give us an extra revenue stream. We planned to create mini-blogs around our videos on top of the odd parent related posts and reviews from brand collaborations. We’ve discussed so many times what the clear direction of the blog should be, but having two of us both with different interests and different skill sets makes it almost impossible to come to an agreement.

Having something to add to a specific conversation seems the best way to go, but when you want to get involved in every conversation it blurs your path.

It’s crazy to think that actually the main draw of our content is actually us, David and Donetta! When you think about it, there’s nothing unique for us to offer an online audience in any given niche, we don’t know anything someone else doesn’t and don’t have anything to say that’s not already been said. What is unique and what we do have that’s different to anyone else, is that it’s us saying it and doing it.

When I think to people that I follow and people that draw me in, it’s almost always them and their personality that gets me rather than whatever the subject is they’re discussing.

Lifestyle is a niche that’s massively broad and could actually mean anything. It’s probably where we will sit as our focus now is to literally go about our lives and tell you about it in the hope our delivery is interesting enough to make a career out of it.

In this social media driven world the career possibilities are endless and your life becoming your career is a genuine possibility. Our lives are quite varied as are our interests so we’re hoping it should make for even more interesting content. Doors are opening on a weekly basis to try new things so boxing ourselves into a single niche would restrict us and we don’t like the idea of that.

So, if you’re down for hearing what we think about an array of different topics and following what we manage to get ourselves into along the way, then strap in and watch us literally attempt to wing life!
