You know that feeling you get when you look in the mirror and everything is finally on point. Your hair looks good, your outfit is just right and your shoes are cool as.
Today on the blog I wanted to discuss how fashion can help boost your confidence, in particular your shoes.
If you’re following us on INSTAGRAM you’ll have seen me quickly fall in love with a shoe shop in Doncaster called The Shoe Room. It’s the pure quality of shoe in that shop that’s sparked this very blog post. We’ve been filming for a video at The Shoe Room so have spent a fair amount of time in there recently. During this time the owners Richard and Michelle have been unbelievably kind and even let me try on a pair or two, or 20!
I’ve always been into footwear and loved a fresh pair of kicks. Day to day you’d find me in a pair of Nikes, Adidas or anything that’s taken my fancy in Primark or even Asda. Most of the time I’ll shop with my eyes, meaning, if they look good I’ll usually buy them. When I want a ‘proper’ pair of trainers, maybe twice a year, I’ll go straight for Nike or Adidas, they’re my personal favourites and are usually long lasting quality trainers.
When it comes to actual shoes, for when I have to up my dapper game, I’m lost. It’s always been about what looks good on the shelf and matches my outfit.
I like to think I’m not bad at fashion, matching my clothing up and selecting decent footwear. There’s few better feelings than when you pick an outfit for an occasion or even if you’re just out for the day shopping etc, and you’ve got it bang on! You feel an inch taller, a few pounds lighter and puff your chest out that little bit more. Well that’s how I feel anyway.
We’ve recently teamed up with Lakeside Shopping Village Outlet to swap my snapback and hoodie for a dapper three-piece and I’ll be honest, I smashed it. My new suit has me feeling very confident ahead of a day at the races later this week.
I spent the day trying on some PROPER shoes in The Shoe Room and seriously, I felt a foot taller never mind an inch! I had the pleasure of trying on shoes from brands like Trickers, Loake and Barkers. The feeling when I had shoes on that I knew were top quality was pure confidence.
I actually imagined myself swanning around at the races, beautiful wife on my arm, dapper tweed jacket on and shoes that spoke volumes on my feet. Absolute confidence.
That’s what has led to me writing this post. Donetta and I have a keen interest in fashion, or maybe it’s an interest in how fashion makes us feel. Whether it’s a pair of £200+ shoes or budget fashion hauls from Primark, I think why people love fashion so much is because it can and does boost your confidence. For me there is certainly a direct relationship between what I’m wearing and my confidence.
I think this is fairly obvious really isn’t it. I imagine every one reading this knows that when they have nothing to wear, or aren’t quite happy with a certain aspect of their outfit, they then feel a bit off it. In contrast, when your outfit is FIRE and your shoes are LIT you feel untouchable!
Not literally on fire or lit. I’m just trying to stay relevant with the younger audience 🙂
With this new found focus on fashion lately, sparked by a few awesome opportunities we’ve been given, my mindset has certainly been tweaked. In particular in the footwear department, I’m already starting to see shoes as an investment rather than just a quick buy because something looks nice. I’m definitely looking more for genuine quality to further enhance my confidence when wearing them.
Are you the same as me or do I sound crazy? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to read how you feel about using fashion to boost your confidence, if you do?
Thanks for reading,
