When starting Vlog Style Video for your business or personal brand, there are a few things you should think about before you jump in.
Welcome back again for another installment of the Vlog Style Video Consultancy section of our blog. Today as promised in the previous post ‘5 Reasons I Believe In Vlogging For Business’, I’m talking about the things you should think about before you begin creating vlog style videos for your business and/or personal brand.
What Is Your Business About?
I’m hoping as a business owner you already know what your business is about, a particular service or line of products that you offer to your customers. With the goal of vlog style video being to connect with your customers and potential customers in an authentic manner, it’s important to think a little deeper about what your business is really about and what you want your brand to stand for. It’s like having a tag line.
You’re not just a women’s clothing shop, your providing fashion to empower women of today. You’re not just a fruit and veg man, you’re providing a healthy service with a smile. Your business is more than just a physical product or digital service.
Who Is Your Target Audience?
You know your product and you know your tag line, now who are your products and services for? I don’t want to teach business owners how to run a business because you’re already there and are bound to know more than I do, so I’ll assume you know exactly who your target audience is. Why it’s important to think more consciously about it before starting your vlog style videos, is because it strongly links to the next point…
Where Are They Hanging Out Online?
It’s vital you put in some research as to where your target audience are hanging out online. If your product is aimed at teenagers, then forget Facebook and LinkedIn, it’s all about Instagram and Snapchat. If you’re targeting parents and families locally, then Facebook is where you need to pile the vast majority of your eggs.
It might be that your business covers several different demographics, that’s fine you’ll have to choose more than one platform and get creative with what you share where. Research, taste and evaluate.
The main objective of giving these 3 points some thought, is so that once you get cracking documenting your business journey, you have more of an idea of how you want to go about personalising your videos, who your videos are targeting and which platform to start with.
For many people the thought of creating videos is scary, so I’d advise doing a little research and then choosing one platform to tackle at a time. If you’re a complete novice when it comes to social media and in particular video, I’d go with Instagram. It’s very easy to get the hang of, a great starting point for short clips to build up your confidence, there’s a load of extra features available as you become more confident AND almost everyone is on there nowadays.
As always, please do let me know if this has been helpful for you, I’m planning to tackle ‘What You Need To Start Vlogging’ next on the blog and I think you’ll be surprised…
