A vlog is a ‘Video Log’ and for me ‘Vlog Style Video’ means any video content that intends to document a journey without the need for huge production and/or editing. Vlog style videos can be as polished or unpolished as you like, it’s the journey, authenticity, realism and the message in the video that is important.
Welcome to the Vlog Style Video Consultancy section of David and Donetta. This part of our website is where I (David) want to share all of my thoughts and advice on Vlog Style Video for your business.
I’ve already introduced the thinking behind the vlog consultancy I now offer to businesses in my post David’s New Business | Vlog Style Video Consultancy. I talk through how the idea came about and what actions spiraled immediately after.
Today, I thought we’d start right from the beginning and discuss What Is Vlog Style Video?
I think the first paragraph of this post really sums it up, but I’d like to explain further from my point of view, what vlog style video is. As I’ve mentioned earlier, I think many vlog style videos, in particular aimed at businesses, are more about documenting than creating. If your mindset is more focussed on documenting your business journey, this helps take away the notion that you have to be a creative person to create video. Documenting is more information based, content that focuses more on providing knowledge and information to the viewer.
You don’t have to be a creative cinematographer to create a video explaining the history of your business or how to use the product you’re selling.
This brings me onto the next point from the first paragraph of this post, vlog style video can be as polished or unpolished as you like.
If you happen to be creative and either have video editing skills or want to learn them, then great, be creative and up the production and visual experience of your videos. However, this really isn’t neccessary and unpolished raw footage can be just as, if not more powerful in getting your message across to viewers and potential customers. The whole point in my view on vlog style video is that unpolished, raw and authentic video is exactly what businesses should be doing.
The aim for you as a business when creating a video to share with your customers and potential customers, is to increase the authenticity and personality of your business. You want your business to become a brand.
Vlog style video can be created in many ways and for every different platform.
- You can be a shoe shop redesigning your window display, create a short video of the process and your thinking behind your new display and upload it to your Facebook Page.
- If you’re a hotel, you could hand one of your staff the Instagram account and let them film a ‘Day In The Life Of A Hotel Events Manager’ on Instagram Stories.
There’s so many ways in which raw and authentic vlog style video can be created, breathing personality into your business and help build your brand.
People love behind the scenes type video, it’s probably why ‘vlogging’ on YouTube has been so popular for years and people are making careers from sharing their everyday life.
Get your camera or phone out, tap record and document your day at work, it’s as simple as that.
Please do let me know if this has been helpful as it’s always good to gain feedback on what content I can create to help you. In the next installment of this Vlog Consultancy section I’m going to be talking more specifically about Why I Believe In Vlogging For Business.
